NEW COACHES
Getting Started
Thank you for your interest in coaching football with Botley Boys & Girls FC!
We all need a bit of persuasion to step forward as coach or manager of our child’s team, but once you have made the brave decision, you won’t regret it! It’s fantastic fun to work with excitable and enthusiastic children and incredibly rewarding to see them develop and grow as football players, and as human beings!
Any parent or carer with the right attitude can become a successful Botley Boys & Girls Team Manager or Coach. You don’t even need to know much about football! The Club will provide you with all the support and training you need.
Getting started can be broken down into the five basic steps outlined below.
Step 1: FAN Number
The first step is to obtain a "FAN" number from the FA. You need this to sign up for FA courses, and also for online match reporting on FA Full-Time (visit the page for existing coaches). Inform the Club Welfare Officer of your FAN number so you can be put onto the relevant system. Note: You may already have a FAN number if your child is registered with the FA and you are registered as their parent/carer.
Step 2: Application Form
Once you have your FAN number you will need to complete the new coach Application Form. The online form is short and easy to complete and provides the Club with all the information we need to register you as a coach with the Club. You can complete the application by clicking the button below.
Step 3: DBS Check
Once your Application has been received, our Club Welfare Officer will contact you to initiate a DBS check. DBS checks are a mandatory requirement for coaching or managing children with Botley Boys & Girls FC and DBS checks should be completed as soon as possible. It is FA policy and a fundamental aspect of achieving the club’s Accredited status. Doing the DBS check online (and renewing it every three years) is relatively straightforward, and we have all the required systems in place.
To start the process please contact our Club Welfare Officer, who will send you instructions. The Welfare Officer is responsible for processing dozens of DBS checks and would therefore appreciate diligence from managers/coaches in fulfilling this requirement.
Step 4: Mandatory Training
Once your DBS application has been submitted, you will need to complete two mandatory FA training modules: Safeguarding Children Training and Introduction to First Aid in Football. These two modules need to be renewed every three years.
The costs for these courses will be paid for by the Club. You can pay for the courses yourself and request a reimbursement from the Club Treasurer. If you are unable to do this, please contact the Club Treasurer who will arrange to pay for the courses directly.

This is an FA requirement and the starting point for Team Managers and Coaches to get on the FA coaching ladder, providing an excellent introduction to coaching youth football. The course is fully online and can be completed at your own pace over a period of time.
